Germaine Simone Bouvier (neé Provençal) of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, passed away on December 27, 2022, at the age of 96 years.
Germaine was born on September 22, 1926, on a farm near Ponteix, to Albert and Clara (neé Privé) Provençal. She was the 2nd of 9 children. She attended a country school near Ponteix and worked on the farm until taking a nurse’s aid position at the Gravelbourg hospital.
It was in 1946 when Germaine met her soulmate and love of her life, a handsome man named Léo R. Bouvier who had recently returned from serving overseas in WWII and had started farming land at the family farm. They were married June 17, 1947, in Ponteix, SK and made their life on the homestead doing mixed farming. Germaine was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Gravelbourg.
Germaine and Léo were blessed with six children, their first dying in infancy. The family enjoyed many wonderful times while they grew up on the farm.
Germaine was an elegant lady, a devoted loving wife and mother, a lifelong friend, an incredible cook, gardener, artist, strong-willed and a real go-getter. Any work, challenge, task or hobby was met with determination, passion for great results, perfection, done with great joy and love. All of this was evident in her home, garden, petit-point, crochet, ceramics, music and anything she created or did. She enjoyed learning new things.
When retirement was on the horizon, Germaine and Léo built a house in Gravelbourg selling the farm in 1983 when retirement day finally arrived. They spent the next several years travelling the globe and the country they were proud of, greatly enjoying this time together.
Germaine took great pride and immense joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent and each was incredibly special to her.
Be humble, be kind and be proud of yourself. Love and support each other, remember where you come from and help the next one in line as you were helped. ~ Germaine Bouvier
