Hugs to all the family in Saskatchewan. My brother, Elmer, aptly described as a diamond with rough edges. But I will remember the "diamond" part. His place was a favorite of his Vancouver nephews when in Sask. and the standard rule was there are steaks in the freezer and beer in the fridge but you might want to pick up some fresh vegetables. On one of my sons' early visits to his farm when they were maybe 6 and 7 years old, he decided to take them out to shoot beers cans off fence posts, which graduated to drowning out gophers and shooting them. I stayed in the house, probably cooking or doing laundry. Elmer sheepishly came in and advised me that one of the boys hit a gopher and promptly threw up but he had promised the boys he would not tell anyone. He was so up on politics and while we did not agree on everything, I learned much from him and while he probably never admitted it, I think I gave him some things to think about. He also knew more about world affairs and history than many. I will miss him!!
