Daryl Reader
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Daryl Jason Reader on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the age of 48 years. Daryl was the oldest child and only son born to Dale and Sheryl (nee Jones) Reader. He was born on January 18, 1975, in Swift Current, SK. Daryl’s early years were spent with his parents and younger sister Carmen on the family farm, south of Woodrow, SK. As a child, he loved to go skating at the rink. In 1980, the family purchased a home in Moose Jaw allowing Daryl and Carmen to attend Palliser School and later Riverview Collegiate. School excursions to Montreal, Nashville and Los Angeles were highlights for Daryl. He enjoyed attending Camp Thunderchild and Camp Easter Seal. Daryl always loved to return to the family farm on weekends and vacations. He loved spending time with his grandparents, having supper in the field, and when he was older driving the truck and trailer while hauling bales for the cattle with his Dad. He also loved to ride his motorbike in the summer and go snowmobiling in the winter. He always looked forward to spending time with his beloved dog and faithful companion Maggie. As an adult, Daryl formed new and lifelong friendships living in his group homes on Connaught and later Stadacona. He enjoyed working in the laundry department at Valley View Centre. He made many lasting friendships with the staff and the residents, but none greater than Mark Lebere, who hired Daryl and Daryl’s best friend Mike to be his bodyguards during his Elvis Impersonation Concerts. Daryl took this job very seriously and many special memories and laughs were shared on the road and at the concerts. He was a Moose Jaw Warriors season ticket holder and their number one fan sitting right next to the player’s bench. He was thrilled to be gifted a Brayden Point jersey and displayed it with pride in his room. He enjoyed music and attending concerts, especially seeing AC/DC perform live in Regina. On occasion, he loved to have a drink which would last him the whole evening! Rum and Coke! In June 2022, Lafleche and District Health Centre became Daryl’s new home where the staff and residents became his new friends that would joke and laugh and share a hug with him. Daryl was a kind and tender son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend and will be dearly missed. Daryl leaves to cherish his memory, his father Dale Reader; uncles Dale Jones and Bob (Shelley) Jones; aunts Linda (Murray) McCrank, and Debra (Rick) Olliver; numerous cousins and friends. He is reunited in heaven with his mother Sheryl (nee Jones) Reader; sister Carmen Reader; grandparents Harry and Helen Reader; grandparents Lloyd and Joy Jones; uncle Wayne Reader. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Piche Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapels, 601 Highway 2 North Assiniboia SK, with Reverend Janelle Shaw officiating. The eulogy will be shared by Reg Reimche. Honorary Pallbearers are all Daryl’s Friends. Active Pallbearers are Cody Jones, Scott Olliver, Trent Olliver, Brennan Jones and Brayden Jones. Interment will take place at Woodrow Municipal Cemetery.
