Obituary of Gordon Brunt
Gordon Brunt passed away peacefully on March 18th 2023 at the age of 88 years, at Ross Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia, where he had been a resident for 3 years.
Gordon was born and raised in Regina, SK. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon and her family, his daughter, Elaine Hannah (Chris) and son, Murray Brunt (Dawn Maclachlan) and grandson Keelan Hannah (Chantel) and great-grandson Briggs and granddaughter Patsy Hannah (Jesse Foley).
Gordon always loved working in the yard and enjoyed being outdoors. He became an avid gardener and learned carpentry from his Dad as a young lad. He used these skills throughout his life.
He attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK. He spent 23 + years teaching at Assiniboia Composite High School and was principal for 9 of those years. He also enjoyed being a farmer for several years.
He was on the board of Directors as Director and Secretary for the Assiniboia Credit Union for five years and was a Mason for a time when he lived in Assiniboia. Later on, he became Chairperson of the Mossbank branch of the Saskatchewan Housing Authority for several years.
Gordon was a very talented pianist and shared his musical talents throughout his life. He was involved with playing and singing in various church choirs as well as singing in the Assiniboia Community Choir for 39 years. He and Sharon were the musicians at Gravelbourg Lutheran Church for many years.
It was very fitting that, at the funeral, a recording of Gordon singing the solo part of “Thy will be done”, accompanied by The Assiniboia Community choir, was played as one of their various musical selections.
Gordon leaves a legacy of kindness and respect for others. He will be missed by all the people whose lives he has touched over his 88 years.
The Funeral service was held on Saturday, March 25th 2023 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Assiniboia, SK with Rev. Sarah Mowat officiating. Interment was held at Mossbank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keelan Hannah, Allen Proust, Leon Banadyga, Les Wilcock, Larry Coghlin, Doug Nagel and Laurie Wuschke.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Ross Payant Nursing Home, the Nurses and Raegan Rasmussen NP, for their loving care of Gordon over the past 3 years and to Piche Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapel.
