Obituary of Paul-Emile Lamarre
Paul-Emile Lamarre
(April 9, 1939 - April 2, 2023)
Paul-Emile Renaud Felix Lamarre passed away peacefully at the Foyer d’Youville in Gravelbourg with his entire family surrounding him. Paul-Emile was born to Adelard and Berthe (Roy) Lamarre April 9, 1939. Paul valued hard work. He was busy delivering beer to the King’s Hotel when he met Carol Neitling, who would often help Paul and her dad, the owner, unload the kegs. Paul knew this hard-working woman was the one for him. It took this quiet man a few months to work up the courage to ask Carol out, but he eventually did and their lives were transformed. Paul and Carol were married July 23, 1960 at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral in Gravelbourg, SK. This year, they would have been married for 63 years.
Paul was part of Lamarre and Sons Truck Service Ltd from the time he was a young man. He initially worked with his dad then later took over the company operations with his brother, Don, in 1964. In 1998, Paul brought his son, Corey, into the family business as a partner because of Don’s failing health. Dusty, Paul’s beloved dog, was a constant road companion. Paul loved his trucks and often worked seven days a week to keep things running smoothly. Despite the long hours, he never lost focus of what is most important in life: family, friends, community and love.
Paul was a quiet man who valued the simple life, found joy in his family, worked hard and supported his community. He and Carol embraced family life. They had four children together: Michael, Brian, Jacqueline and Corey. Because Paul and Carol worked so long and hard, when they had time for a little relaxation, Paul always wanted to spend that time with his family. Fishing, boating and bowling were some of his favorite activities, but what truly brought him joy was doing those things with his wife and kids. They were his love and joy. Life was a journey and an adventure best enjoyed with one’s loved ones.
Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather. As his children married and had children of their own, Paul could often be found attending dance and music recitals, cheering the grandchildren on at football, baseball and hockey games. He took great pride and found joy in all his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Paul suffered a major heart attack in 2002. Though his life changed dramatically in regards to the trucking industry, his love for the road and trucks never ceased nor did his devotion to his family. The family were blessed to have Paul for 21 years after that major heart attack. Each day was seen as a gift. Through it all, Paul never lost his sense of humor. He just couldn’t miss an opportunity to make someone smile or laugh.
Paul was supportive of his community. He’d buy anything and everything to support fund-raising initiatives, his children/grandchildren’s activities and the town of Gravelbourg. He was a member of the Gravelbourg Volunteer Fire Fighters Association for 25 years (January 1977 - January 2002). In all his dealings, personal and business, he valued honesty and respect.
Paul Lamarre is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol (Neitling); his four children, Michael, Brian (Carol), Jacqueline and Corey ( Sherri); as well as his 11 grandchildren, Kendra, Amber, Colin, Ryan, Amanda, Matthew, Nicole, Michelle, Anthony, Ayden, and Tyler; 1 great grandchild, Brayden; and his sister, Priscilla Pinsonneault.
Paul is predeceased by his parents, Adelard and Berthe (Roy) Lamarre; his brother Donald; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Kenneth Neitling; his daughter-in-law Sharon Lamarre; and his son-in-law Steven Neriuoka.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Pillay, Dr. Ramlakhan and St. Joseph Hospital/Foyer d’Youville staff for their care of our husband, dad, and grandpa. Special thanks to all who offered condolences and have helped the family through this difficult time. Your presence and kindness are gifts to us.
