Obituary of Ruth Fauser

Ruth Fauser passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Foyer d’Youville in Gravelbourg, SK, with her family by her side. She was 96 years old. Ruth was born on November 28, 1926, on a farm in Glidden, SK, as the eighth of nine children born to William and Lydia Bender. She cherished her childhood memories of attending a country school and traveling by horse and buggy or sleigh. She continued her education in Glidden until grade 10 and, at the age of fifteen, attended Alberta College, where she studied stenography. On October 7, 1949, she married Ted Fauser, and they were blessed with two sons, Don and Bob. In 1955, tragedy struck when Ted drowned in an accident at Pinto Creek. Ruth faced this devastating loss with courage and determination. She moved a small house to Woodrow, where the family resided for several years. On November 3, 1956, Ruth married Elmer Fauser, and they went on a short honeymoon in the United States accompanied by Ruth's boys. Ruth maintained a large garden on the farm and tirelessly cared for her children. Over the years, she and Elmer welcomed the birth of Shelley, followed by twins Cindy and Cheryl, and finally Garry. In 1965, they moved into a new modern bungalow on the farm, enjoying many memorable family moments, including camping trips, picnics, and gatherings with family. Ruth enjoyed spending her time singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday School to kids. Winters were busy with hockey, figure skating, music lessons, and snowmobile parties, while summers were spent at the ballpark and driving kids to swimming lessons at Thomson Lake. Sadly, in the fall of 1969, Elmer suffered a fatal heart attack. Again, Ruth persevered, she then took a job at the Wood River school unit, initially taking library inventory and changing libraries to the Dewey Decimal System. She later transitioned to secretary to the Director of Education. Ruth was an active community member and took great pride in community service. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Lafleche and District Museum, served on the music festival committee, and acted as the secretary of the Wood River Historical Society. She also found time for traveling to Disneyland, Hawaii, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Ruth enjoyed bowling in Gravelbourg and, in her later years, in Moose Jaw. She had many talents, including computer skills, calligraphy, sewing, quilting, and knitting. Ruth married Orville Tallon on March 11, 2000, and they resided in the Lafleche area until later moving to their new home in Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw turned out to be just the right place for them, perfectly situated between the farm and their families, offering endless activities to enjoy together. Sadly, Orville passed away in 2006. Ruth continued to live in Moose Jaw for a time before moving to Assiniboia. In 2020, needing extra care Ruth relocated to the Foyer. She is survived by her loving family; son Don (Delores) Fauser, daughter Shelley (Art) Hughes, daughter Cindy (Garth) Sproule, daughter Cheryl (Marty) Crooks, son Garry (Bridget) Fauser, daughter-in-law Clara Fauser Lucas (Bob Lucas), 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, stepson Morley (Linda) Tallon and family, stepson Keith (Cheryl) Tallon and family, stepson Doug (Pam) Tallon and family, stepdaughter-in-law Carole Tallon and family. Predeceased by husbands Ted Fauser (1955), Elmer Fauser (1969), Orville Tallon (2006), son Bob Fauser (2012), son-in-law Clinton Crooks (2012), great-grandson baby Robert Ellis (2001), stepson Bryan Tallon (2019).

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, @ 1:00 p.m., at Piche Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapels, 601 Highway 2 North, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
