Obituary of Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson aged 78 years of Lafleche, SK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Harley was born, on August 19, 1944, in Lafleche, SK.  Harley found his love for hockey first in Lafleche and continued to pursue that passion when the family moved to Swift Current. Harley joined the Navy in 1961 for a 3-year hitch. It was the Navy that brought Harley to Victoria where he continued his passion with hockey playing for the Victoria Cougars and the Navy Hockey team. While being stationed in Victoria Harley was fortunate enough to meet Sharon Lawrence and charmed her away from the island where they would establish their roots in the Woodrow flat farming the family farm.

Harley and Sharon were married on December 27, 1965, in Regina, SK.  They started their family first in the Woodrow Flat, but would soon after purchase land on the Wood River where they continued to grow their family on the farm that they remain at to this day.  Harley took his passion and skills in Hockey off the ice and behind the bench where he would coach not only his Sons but countless youths in the surrounding towns in Minor Hockey. Many of those players would continue to stop by over the years for a visit and say thank you for the commitment and time that he spent coaching and mentoring. 

While on the farm, Harley started his own guiding business where he welcomed many hunters from all across Canada and the United States to share in his love for bird and game hunting. Those hunters would be welcome at the farm and stay in the bunkhouse where many a night was spent telling stories and where many memories and long-time relationships were made.  The bunk house would be later converted into the ‘saw shack’ where Harley could spend his time woodworking and putzing about.

Harley was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Gladys (née Boland) Davidson, and brother-in-law Bob Grant. Harley will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon; children Lonney (Sheila her children Alesha and Tracey) Davidson of Weyburn, SK, Sherri (Marc) Gaumont of Lethbridge, AB and Scott (Jennifer and her children Ryan, Jonathan, and Alexander) Davidson of Lafleche, SK; grandchildren, Brittney (Mike) Stashick of Ottawa, ON, Brianna Davidson of Regina, SK, Brette and Kadi Gaumont of Lethbridge, AB and the first great-granddaughter Kinsley Stashick. His sister, Shirley (Grant) Grant, nieces Andrea (James) Cole of Victoria, BC, Kerry (Wade) Trottier of Airdrie, AB, great-neices Madison and Mackenzie of Calgary, AB.  There are numerous relatives and friends who will miss his sense of humour and many would agree that he was quite the character!

I’m so grateful for family and friends! Your overwhelming caring and support will carry me on! Thank you all for the visits, messages and calls, flowers, food, and hugs! A remembrance and celebration of Harley’s life will be held September 30th @ 2:00 p.m. at the McMaster Manor B&B 1 mile north of our yard GPS coordinates 49.7101°N,106.6446°W

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Harley’s name may be made to Lafleche Minor Hockey or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Piché Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia and Gravelbourg.
