Arthur André Lorrain

(1935 – 2023)

It is with sorrow that we share with you that we have lost of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Arthur Lorrain, who died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on Thursday, July 27^th, 2023, at the age of 88, with his cherished wife, Eveline, at his side.

He was born on his parent’s homestead on Section 13, Township 11, Range 6, West of the 3^rd Meridian in Southern Saskatchewan on February 23^rd, 1935. He was predeceased by his parents, Berthe (Balthazard) and Amédée Lorrain, his five brothers, Robert, Edouard (late Louise Poirier), René (late Thérèse Rivard), Alexandre (late Carmen Perron) and Georges, his three sisters, Laurette (late René Bouvier), Solange (late Raoul Chevrier) and Clarisse (late Edward Woods).

Arthur Lorrain was survived by his wife, Eveline (Lefebvre) and his three daughters, Lise (Guy LeBlanc), Jocelyne (Roland Houle) and Nicole (Joseph Denike). He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Chapin Sleightholm (Breanna Sanguin), Rhéanne Birss and Preston Birss, and four great grandchildren, Brier, Orrie, Vanna and Loic Sleightholm. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Madeleine (late Georges Lorrain), as well as numerous nephews and nieces.  

Arthur Lorrain was a farmer. He began to work with his father at the age of 16, and then continued to farm with his brothers René, Edouard and Georges. The “Lorrain Brothers”, as they were known, not only farmed together, but invented equipment to suit their needs, including a floating swather table, seeder markers, and swather transport.

Arthur Lorrain was a rural municipal counsellor for 27 years. He enjoyed travelling in Canada and abroad. He was intrigued by outer space. He adored gadgets and was techno savvy. He was an avid card player, especially cribbage, and he loved fishing, especially when he was the first to catch a fish.

He will be missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 3^rd, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral in Gravelbourg, followed by a interment at the Gravelbourg Roman Catholic Cemetery and Reception at the Gravelbourg Parish Hall.

C'est avec tristesse que nous vous annonçons que nous avons perdu notre bien-aimé mari, père, grand-père et arrière-grand-père, Arthur Lorrain, qui est décédé paisiblement à l'Hôpital St. Joseph à Gravelbourg, en Saskatchewan, le jeudi 27 juillet 2023, à l'âge de 88 ans, son épouse chérie, Eveline, à ses côtés.

Il est né sur la terre de ses parents sur la section 13, canton 11, rang 6, à l'ouest du 3e méridien dans le sud de la Saskatchewan, le 23 février 1935. Il a été prédécédé par ses parents, Berthe (Balthazard) et Amédée Lorrain, ses cinq frères, Robert, Edouard (feu Louise Poirier), René (feu Thérèse Rivard), Alexandre (feu Carmen Perron) et Georges, ses trois sœurs, Laurette (feu René Bouvier), Solange (feu Raoul Chevrier) et Clarisse (feu Edward Woods).

Arthur Lorrain laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Eveline (Lefebvre) et ses trois filles, Lise (Guy LeBlanc), Jocelyne (Roland Houle) et Nicole (Joseph Denike). Il laisse également dans le deuil ses trois petits-enfants, Chapin Sleightholm (Breanna Sanguin), Rhéanne Birss et Preston Birss, et quatre arrière-petits-enfants, Brier, Orrie, Vanna et Loic Sleightholm. Il laisse aussi derrière lui sa belle-sœur, Madeleine (feu Georges Lorrain), ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces.

Arthur Lorrain était fermier. Il a commencé à travailler avec son père dès l'âge de 16 ans, et a poursuivi à cultiver la terre avec ses frères René, Edouard et Georges. Les “Lorrain Brothers”, comme on les appelait, n’étaient pas seulement fermiers; ils inventaient des équipements pour répondre à leurs besoins, y compris une table flottante pour andaineur, des marqueurs de semeuse, et un dispositif de transport pour andaineur.

Arthur Lorrain a été conseiller municipal rural pendant 27 ans. Il appréciait voyager au Canada et à l'étranger. Il était intrigué par l'espace. Il adorait les gadgets et était techno-expérimenté. Il était joueur passionné de cartes, surtout le cribbage, et il aimait pêcher, surtout lorsqu'il était le premier à attraper un poisson.

Il nous manquera.

Une messe funéraire aura lieu le jeudi 3 août 2023 à 11h00 à la Co-Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption à Gravelbourg, suivie d'une inhumation au cimetière catholique romain de Gravelbourg et d'une réception à la salle paroissiale de Gravelbourg.
