Marcel Roger Boire of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan was born on November 20, 1932 and passed away on October 24, 2023 at the age of 90.

On June 20, 1955, Marcel married Therese Levac of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan and were blessed with 6 children – Claudette (1956), Albert (1958), Roland (1959), Susanne (1961), Louise (1966) and Richard (1967).

At the tender age of 15, Marcel left Gravelbourg in search of work in Calgary. He lived sparingly out of his suitcase until he found a job cleaning cars at Pattison Garage Service. He was promoted to valet at the age of 16 and continued for 5 years with no intentions of coming back east. By unforeseen circumstances, the garage burnt to the ground and he became unemployed. Gravelbourg called him back as his step-father, Theophile Baron, had surprised him by purchasing a quarter of land for him using Marcel’s bank account. Due to a shortage of work, his destination would become Gravelbourg again. After returning to Gravelbourg for a year, he began courting the neighbor’s daughter who became his partner for 68 years. He continued to farm and found work at Parkview Motors through the winters while feeding cattle as well. The family grew as well as the land base. An opportunity arrived in 1980 with the purchase of Beaver Lumber where Roland, his son, was employed. Albert, Roland and Marcel continued their venture until 2011 when at 78 years old, he began retirement. Of course, he couldn’t simply retire and continued helping on the farm with Richard. Harvest was his passion as he operated the combine until he was 83.

Slowing down did not come easy to Marcel and he spent his final years around home with his beautiful bride. His last night even showed the love they had for each other as Mom spent the night at his side at the hospital.

Marcel is survived by his wife, Therese Boire (nee Levac), daughter Claudette (Glenn) Krekoski, son Albert (Karen) Boire, daughter Susanne (Ron) Pittet, daughter Louise Boire, son Richard (Jennifer) Boire, along with 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-brother, Victor (Lorraine) Baron and step-brother-in-law, Jude Boulianne.

Marcel is pre-deceased by his parents: Alcide and Claudia Boire, step-father: Theophile Baron, brothers: Albert, Lionel, Gerard, Adrien, Ernest, and Denis, sisters: Rita, Germaine, Therese, step-sister, Yvonne and son, Roland Boire.

A celebration of Marcel’s life will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral in Gravelbourg.
