George G. Moldovan of Limerick, SK, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, at the age of 90. George was born on June 14, 1934, on the family farm NW 4-7-3 W3rd in the R.M. of Stonehenge #73.

George met his soulmate, Bernice, while working as a truck mechanic in Regina, SK. They were married on October 31, 1959. Their union was blessed with two children: their son Danny, born in 1961, and their daughter Charlene, born in 1964.

In the 1970s after George’s father retired, the family returned to the farm in the Limerick district. George partnered with his brother William to farm the land he loved so deeply. His love for animals, especially wild ones, was a hallmark of his character, as he often nursed injured birds back to health.

A talented mechanic, George was known for his custom mechanical work, especially on trucks. He became the go-to person for fixing farm machinery, always ready to help anyone when needed. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as coffee breaks at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM in his shop, as well as playing crib and going fishing. George had a special talent for patiently teaching his nephews how to drive, especially standard transmissions, in the summer fallow field—always encouraging them with a kind smile. He was known for his sense of humour, often setting up practical jokes to get a good laugh.

In 2022, George needing extra care moved into the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix, where he received excellent care from the staff and found joy in the company of other residents.

George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Bernice (née McLean) Moldovan, son Danny Moldovan, daughter Charlene Moldovan, and nephew Kenneth Draghici, who was like a son to both George and Bernice. He is also survived by his brother William (Darlene) Moldovan, sisters Helen Precop, Valerie (Pat) Sweeney, and Liz (Ken) Redfern, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, George J. and Marie “Mary” (née Cojohn) Moldovan, his sister Marian (Michael) Draghici, his brothers John (Betty) Moldovan and Samuel (Delores) Moldovan, his sister Virginia (Tom) McGuckie, and his brother-in-law George Precop.

A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Piché Hawkins Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, with a Private Family Interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
