Obituary of Aubrey Ellis
It is with broken hearts & much sadness the family of Aubrey Grant Ellis announce the passing of our much loved father, brother, papa, neighbor & friend on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Lafleche Health Center.
Aubrey was born May 17, 1942, in Lafleche Hospital, the youngest son of Aubrey & Barbara Ellis. He grew up on his parent’s family farm and attended Wood Dale School & Lafleche High School. In the early years, he went to school by horse and cutter which had a stove in it to keep the kids warm.
Aubrey participated in many sports in his years here on earth, he especially loved track & field as a youngster. As he got older, he curled/bowled/coached hockey, loved snowmobiling & playing cards with neighbors & friends. Aubrey was an active member in the community by serving many years on various boards & organizations. Always ready to lend a helping hand or volunteer where & when help was needed.
Aubrey & Margaret met at a dance in Fir Mountain at 17 yrs old and fell in love, they were married 3 years later in July 1962 at Fir Mtn. They lived in Fir Mtn in the winter and then in a house trailer in his parents farm in the summer while he farmed. They moved to their farm in December 1964 (6 miles south of Lafleche), for the rest of their lives together. They couldn’t ask for better neighbors, everyone looked out for each other & loved getting together frequently for cards, meals, visits, lots of laughs and of course many drinks.
Aubrey will always be remembered for his love of family, farming, friends and of course his beer. Farming was truly Aubrey’s way of life & he took great pride in the farm that he built, the seed that he sowed and the pigs, chickens and turkeys that he raised.
Aubrey & Margaret had many adventures over their years together. They travelled abroad several times and toured Canada. Aubrey’s happiest moments was when he was with Margaret. He loved and embraced his Scottish background. They travelled across the pond many times and his relatives from Scotland travelled to the prairies many times also. He had a qilt made in the Grant tartan and was proud to wear it any chance he could and had the legs to rock it.
Being together for the little things was just as important to him as being together for the big things. Through his lifetime of special moments and cherished memories that we have all made with him are what we will hold in our hearts today and always.
Aubrey will be remembered for his kind and gentle heart, his endless capacity of patience, his special grin and of course his favorite holiday…Christmas!!! He lit up his whole farm like the Griswold’s Christmas Vacation house. The glow from the lights would be seen for miles and miles.
Aubrey is survived by his children, Blaine(Carmen) of Lafleche, Boyd(Jackie) of Ebenezer, Lisa of Assiniboia. He leaves behind 6grandchildren: Jamie, Garrett, Zach, Hailey, Rhys, Jenna who he loved with all his heart and soul. Older brother Lorne and twin sister AudreyMarcenko. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, daughter Lorilee, grandson Robert, sister Margaret Allingham, & ½ sister Audrey Paul.
