Obituary of Yvette Laurette RAES

Yvette Laurette Raes of Fir Mountain, SK, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, at the age of 81 years. Yvette was born at Wood Mountain Post in August 27, 1931. She was the third child of Alphonse and Laurette Poirier and an older sister to Lucille, Camille and Emile and predeceased by two older infant brothers. Yvette was known to have a love for wild horses and she was especially fond of Tucky, the pony that carried her to school. She attended grade school at Macworth and the Lafleche Convent, where she learned how to knit and crochet, a skill that she carried throughout her entire life. Yvette attended high school in Fir Mountain and took a Secretarial course in Moose Jaw. While attending school in Moose Jaw she came home for the holidays and met Claude Raes, the young farm hand that was working for her father Alphonse. They were married in November of 1950. Yvette was a loving wife and a caring mother to her children Darwin, Morrie and Maureen. She was a grandmother to 8 and a great grandmother to 11 more. Yvette’s work ethic was outstanding. Anyone who came to the yard for a visit would see her on the lawnmower, or working in her garden. Yvette wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and although she loved to see visitors, the first words out of her mouth were always: "Shouldn’t you be working?!?” Yvette enjoyed playing in bluegrass bands in Arizona, shuffle board or Canasta, and there were always a lot of laughs shared. Yvette was not afraid to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Whether it was taking grandchildren to swimming lessons, cooking for the community, working as a member of the Killdeer Altar Society or working alongside her husband and sons on the farm, she was always helping. Yvette was an amazing woman, a vibrant character in the community, and truly was a woman with a heart of gold. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Yvette is survived by her loving family, husband of 62 years Claude; son Darwin (Laurie), granddaughter Regan (Jason), great grandchildren Ronnie, Ryley, Kymberly, Owen, granddaughter Claudine (Tobby) granddaughter Kirsten (Ryan), great grandchildren Sierra, Dakota, Cassidy, granddaughter Aimee (Mitch), great grandchildren Jaimee, Craig, Abby, Korbin; son Morrie (Colleen), grandson Sheldon (Cath), granddaughter Natalie (Serg) , great grandchildren Daylan, Tyson, grandson Bradley (Megan), granddaughter Fiona (Jon). Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, May 27, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Glentworth, SK, with Father Franklin Emereuwa celebrant. Cross bearer was Achilles Chabot. Urn bearer was Robin Poirier. The Paschal Candle was lit by Camille Anderson. Readers were Regan Knight and Fiona Raes. Responsorial Psalm was sung by Gilbert Chabot. Offertory gifts were presented by Ronnie Peters and Ryley Peters. The eulogy was shared by Bradley Raes. Special song was sung by Megan Raes. Organist was Jacqueline Poirier. Interment took place at the Glentworth Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donation in memory of Yvette to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 289 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8 and the Wood Mountain Regional Park, Box 14, Wood Mountain, SK S0H 4L0, were greatly appreciated.
