Obituary of Raymond Bouvier

Raymond Joseph Bouvier of Meyronne, SK passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014, at the age of 79 years. Raymond was born in the Meyronne district on October 5, 1935, to Honorius and Eva (nee Landry) Bouvier. Shortly after his baptism, Raymond came down with a severe case of meningitis that adversely affected his hearing, and therefore his speech. His Mother passed away in 1941, leaving Raymond’s dad to raise a family of nine on his own. Raymond had many setbacks growing up, he did not attend school, was injured on the farm, and burned in an explosion. Through all this Raymond persevered. He was a resilient man and lived a productive life. With new medical advancement it was found that Raymond was severely hearing impaired, and in 1961 he was fitted with his first hearing aid. Many things took on a new wonder and excitement for Raymond as he joined the world of sound, and his speech improved dramatically. Raymond was a special person to all who knew him. He was a social butterfly and used hand signals, gestures, lip reading, and his sense of humour to make many friends. Raymond loved going to hockey games, rodeos, dances, and local restaurants and bars. Raymond was always one of the first people to arrive and the last to leave. One of Raymond’s passions was bowling, and once the lanes opened in Meyronne he hardly ever missed a day. He was one of their biggest supporters and over the years became very good at the game. He won many trophies and was very proud of this accomplishment. Raymond enjoyed farming and was impressed by mechanical advancements and new farming practices, often riding with neighbours to check things out. In the last few years he watched from the road instead of the seat, but he still wanted to see what was new. Raymond loved his family and treasured the time he spent with his nieces and nephews. He always had time to visit, play a game of cards, or to watch TV. He also loved animals, especially his dogs. They were his constant companions and made almost as many miles in his truck as he did. Raymond’s visits and quirky ways will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Raymond is survived by his loving family, sisters Jeanne Brault, Thérèse Thomas, Marie Gavelin; brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Theresa Bouvier; sister-in-law Lillian Bouvier; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Predeceased by his parents Honorius and Eva (nee Landry) Bouvier; brothers Eugène Landry, Alex Bouvier, Magloire Bouvier; sister Cécile Lalonde; brothers-in-law John Thomas, Adolphe Lalonde, Ellis Gavelin; nephews François Bouvier, George Landry; nieces Margaret Wells (nee Lalonde) and Rita Miller (nee Thomas). Funeral Mass was held on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Meyronne Hall, Meyronne, SK. Celebrant was Father Joseph Strohhofer. Cross bearer was Maurice Bouvier and altar server was Fern Bouvier. Readers were Monique Gross and Gail Bouvier. Prayers of the faithful were given by Vincent Bouvier. The eulogy was shared by Calvin Gavelin. Urn bearer was Norman Bouvier. Interment took place at the Meyronne Cemetery.
