Obituary of Cecile Sewell
Cecile Marie Therese Sewell of Lafleche, SK passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the age of 88 years. Cecile was born on March 7, 1927, on the family farm four miles south of Gravelbourg. She was the oldest daughter of Arthur and Noella (nee Martel) Nobert, and was the 6th of sixteen children. Cecile attended Gravelbourg school, Pelletier school and the Mathieu Convent. After her schooling, Cecile cooked at Gravelbourg College. She then worked at a nursing home in Manitoba, and, later, at St. Joseph Hospital in Gravelbourg, SK.
Cecile married Howard Sewell on August 31, 1946, and they were blessed with four children. Howard and Cecile farmed together and Cecile loved the farm life. She especially enjoyed seeding and harvest. She had a passion for gardening and took pride in growing food for her family. Her cabbage rolls, nanaimo bars and homemade root beer were family favorites, and were treats her family looked forward to when they were working in the field. Cecile’s favorite job on the farm was running the combine, and she loved to go for drives in the country to see how the crops were doing. Cecile truly loved Howard, and missed him deeply when he passed away in 1982. She always said that they grew up together, worked hand in hand on their farm, and in raising their children.
She was an excellent sewer, knitter and cook. She also taught ceramics for a number of years. She was never afraid to take on any challenges, whether making or building anything, and was pleased when she succeeded.
Cecile had a soft spot for animals and shared her home with a wide variety of species over the years. Wildlife and pets would melt her heart. Her love of animals and "the outdoors” lives on in her children.
Cecile had a passion for life, and she truly lived hers to the fullest. She loved traveling, boating, fishing and swimming. She was always curious and eager to learn, and was never afraid of a challenge.
In later years she found a companion in Louis Laflamme whom she married December 10, 1986.
She really enjoyed their travels together as well as their spending winters in Arizona – where she continued to spend winters when Louis was no longer able to go with her. She loved watching the hummingbirds visit her backyard.
In her later years Cecile enjoyed playing cards with her friends.
Cecile cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and fond memories of Cecile will be forever in their hearts.
Cecile is survived by her loving family, daughter Louise Sewell; daughter Angeline Sewell, grandson Silas; son Joe (Trish) Sewell, grandson Shane (Andrea), great grandchildren Tayler and Trinity, grandson Shawn, great grandchildren Brayden and Avery; son Ed (Heather) Sewell, grandson Kurtis, grandson Tyler (Trudy), great grandchildren Olivia and Elisha, granddaughter Chelsey, great grandchildren Amaris, Hayden, and Savannah; siblings Denis (Marie) Nobert, Henri (Antoinette) Nobert, Aline (Norman) Piche, Claude (Mildred) Nobert.

Soloist Andre Moquin was accompanied by organist Leona Bourgeois. Interment took place at the Lafleche Roman Catholic Cemetery.
