Obituary of Doreen AUSER

Doreen passed away peacefully June 18, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born July 28, 1925, on the farm in Lafleche, SK. the youngest child of Joseph & Essie; a sister to Nellie, Phil, Leo and Pat. After graduating in Lafleche she attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. She taught in a country school in Torquay before moving to Limerick where she taught Grades 1 and 2 until the fall of 1947 when she married Fred Auser. As a young woman she played baseball and later she curled with the Limerick ladies – they bonspieled all winter. Those were the days before artificial ice and she often told us it was colder in the rink than outside but nothing a nip of hot rum wouldn’t help! One day she looked up the rules of golf in the encyclopedia and the next day she played Thomson Lake. She turned out to be a natural and loved nothing better on a warm summer day. In the 60’s she taught 4-H sewing – recruited by Marg Oncescu who taught Mom so much. For the rest of her life she made some beautiful projects – she was a self-taught seamstress, tailor, quilter and loved all those shows on HGTV. She was a perfectionist and helped many in the area learn to quilt. Left to mourn are her three children; Lois (Len Bzdel); Bryan (Lil); Monte (Laura), five grandchildren: Shane (Nicki), Ross & Nicole Auser; Shannon Lethbridge (Colin); Jill Jacobi (Dave) & eight great–grandchildren; sister-in-law, Estelle Patterson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Fred, all her siblings and brother and sister-in-law Art and Toni Auser, as well as several nieces and nephews. Our deepest thanks to Dr. Carulei and the wonderful staff at Ross Payant Nursing Home where Mom was "at home” for the past 7 years. A celebration of her life was held at St. George’s RC Church in Assiniboia on Wed. June 26 at 10AM with Celebrant Father Joy Montiague. Guest attendants were great grandchildren Shelby Lethbridge and Kayla Lethbridge. Cross bearer was grandson Ross Auser. Altar server was great nephew Miles Crooks. Lighting of the Paschal Candle by niece Gloria McIvor. Readers were daughter Lois Bzdel and niece Patsy Briere. Prayers of the faithful were read by granddaughters Jill Jacobi and Nicole Auser. Offertory gifts were presented by grandchildren Shane and Nicki Auser. The eulogy was shared by granddaughter Shannon Lethbridge and great granddaughter Kayla Lethbridge. Urn bearers were sons Bryan Auser and Monte Auser. Interment took place at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Limerick, SK. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Doreen’s memory to The Limerick Centennial Park, Box 129, Limerick, SK S0H 2P0.
