Obituary of Trian Lascu
Trian Lascu of Assiniboia, SK went to be with his Lord on Thursday morning, September 22, 2016, at Ross Payant Centennial Nursing Home, Assiniboia, SK, at the age of 95 years. Trian was born on August 20, 1921, on the family homestead at Lakenheath, SK. He was the youngest of nine children born to Dumitru and Maria (nee Moldovan) Lascu. As a young boy, Trian helped his father on the farm while attending Lynthorpe School. He farmed from 1935 to 2009 on the original homestead, and in 1944, when his father retired to Regina, Trian began farming on his own. On August 6, 1949, Trian married Elizabeth (Betty) Oltean from Avonlea at Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church in Regina. Together they worked the land and started a family. In 1959, Trian and Betty purchased land east of the family homestead and built a new house where they lived for thirty six years. On August 6, 1999, Trian and Betty celebrated their milestone 50th wedding anniversary. That same year, they built a new house in Assiniboia and moved into town in the fall. Trian drove out to work on the farm until he was 88 years old. Betty passed away on June 25, 2009, and three months later Trian suffered a stroke. He then moved to Ross-Payant Centennial Nursing Home, where he resided until his passing. Trian was actively involved in the Romanian Orthodox Church, at both Saints Peter and Paul Romanian Orthodox Church near Flintoft and the Descent of the Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church in Assiniboia. He belonged to the Orthodox Brotherhood, worked at the concession booth during buffalo days in Regina, and was a member of the church choir and parish council. Trian was also actively involved in the restoration of Saints Peter and Paul Romanian Orthodox Church from 1979 to 1981, working side by side with neighbours and relatives. Trian and Betty enjoyed many trips to Alberta, British Columbia, Arizona, Mexico, Las Vegas, and many other destinations with family and friends. He had a love for the land and animals, his collection of tractors, and his collection and restoration of antique cars. Trian's greatest love was his dear wife Betty and his five children. Trian was predeceased by his loving wife Betty (nee Oltean) Lascu. He is survived by his family, daughter Elaine (Chris) Dauncey; daughter Beverly (Stewart) Hittle; son Randy Lascu; daughter Eileen (James) Wareing; daughter Karen Lascu; four grandchildren Ryan Dauncey, Jennifer Aussant, Jesse Hittle, Cameron Hittle; and one great grandson Sid Dauncey. Prayers were held at Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., with Father Dennis Remot presiding.
