Obituary of Laverne Tetreau

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert Laverne Tetreau announces his passing following his courageous battle with ALS.Laverne was born November 8, 1949 in Mankota, SK; he departed this world March 28, 2017 in Gravelbourg, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Willis and Gerda Tetreau, and brother-in-law John Longmoore. Laverne will be loving remembered by his wife of 39 years, Janet (nee Bailey); son, Brad (Kyla); daughter, Janna (Dean) Mushie and children, Cayman, Morgan, and Hayden; son, Bryn (Maggi); sisters, Rosalee Longmoore and Reva (Dave) Sigle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Growing up on a farm led Laverne into a childhood similar to many of his generation. Family members worked together to make a living off the land. Time spent with family, friends and neighbors was important. Memories of weekly visits to his grandparents along with larger family gatherings were often recalled as Laverne instilled in his own children the importance of family. Laverne married Janet Bailey in 1977 and together they built a home for their family; Brad, Janna and Bryn. Laverne loved his family. Hockey and rink activities filled the winter months as Laverne and Janet travelled endless miles like so many other parents. Great friendships were made during these years. More recently, the grandchildren became his pride and joy and trips were made to watch them play hockey. Laverne and Janet opened their home to many a hired man, considering each to be a part of the family. For many years, numerous young people made their way to the Tetreau farm to attend the annual Horse Creek Bible School. Laverne, although a quiet and reserved man, enjoyed all these people. Laverne served as RM councillor for the RM of Old Post #43 from 1982-1985 and for the RM of Mankota #45 from 1985-2014. He is remembered for his thoughtful, intelligent, and infinitely decent approach to all deliberations. Laverne and his family were honoured to receive the Century Farm award in 2011. Laverne enjoyed his cattle and in recent years, the transition to organic farming. Laverne had a deep faith in God which served him well in the last months of his life. Laverne’s love for playing guitar and singing will be fondly remembered by those who recall his musical talents. Family and friends will remember his quiet and gentle way. With coffee cup in hand, Laverne had an unforgettable smile for all. The family would like to thank Dr. Pillay and the nursing staff at the St. Joseph’s Hospital for their care of Laverne in his last days. Thank you for the many thoughtful ways friends and neighbours expressed their support and sympathy at the time of Laverne’s passing. Laverne will live forever in our hearts. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at McCord Community Hall in McCord, SK at 2:00 p.m., with Wendell Bailey officiating. Urn Bearer, Janna Mushie. Eulogist, Bryn Tetreau.
