Obituary of Liz DeCap

Elizabeth Germaine DeCap (nee Packet) of Lafleche, SK, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the age of 74 years. Liz was born in the Lafleche District on April 19, 1939, to Cyril and Augusta (nee Volke) Packet. She attended Wood Dale School until grade 8, when she began work on the family farm. As a young girl, Liz enjoyed horseback riding and sports. Liz married Julien DeCap on November 19, 1960 and they resided on a farm near Fir Mountain. There, they were blessed with two boys, Murray and Gary. In 1963, Liz and Julien moved to Lafleche and during that time they saw the arrival of four more children, Leon, Carol, Judy and Darlene. Liz was always a hardworking woman, and she could do the work of two men. After Julien passed away in 1980, Liz worked tirelessly and sometimes she even held down as many as 5 jobs at the same time. Liz was unselfish and her family always came first. Liz enjoyed various activities, such as gardening, game shows, soap operas and listening to music, and one of her favorite pastimes was doing crossword puzzles. She was also an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, and always tried to attend her grandchildren’s various sporting events. Liz had a competitive nature, especially when it came to fishing, and in order to beat a rival fisherman and she often woke the kids up at 3 a.m. to get the perfect fishing spot. Liz kept an immaculate house and yard, a trait that she passed on to all of her children. Petunias were Liz’s favorite flowers, and the only ones that she ever planted in her yard. Liz’s pride and joy was watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow into the responsible and devoted people that they have become and was proud of each and every one of their accomplishments. Liz will be sorrowfully missed by her family, friends and special companion Cuddles. Left to cherish Liz’s memory is her son Murray DeCap; son Gary (Jan) DeCap, grandson Dusten, great grandson Julien; son Leon (Christina) DeCap, grandsons Devin (Courtny), Dane (Nikkie); daughter Carol (Delmer) Perepelkin, grandson Shaun; daughter Judy (Leonard) Kuckartz, grandchildren Jeffrey, Amanda; daughter Darlene (Ryan) Miller, grandchildren Aiden, McKenna. Liz joins in eternal peace her husband Julien DeCap (1980); parents Cyril and Augusta (nee Volke) Packet; brother Marcel Packet; and sister Mary Andries. A Family Graveside Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lafleche Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lafleche, SK. The eulogy was shared by Murray DeCap. Urn bearer was Amanda Kuckartz. Special music included "All I Have to Offer You Is Me,” "Give Me One More Shot,” and "End of the Line.” Memorial donations in memory of Liz to the Wood River First Responders, c/o Marcia Clermont, Box 206, Lafleche, SK S0H 2K0, are greatly appreciated.
