Obituary of Paul Louis Bonneau
Paul was born in Gravelbourg, SK on July 2, 1926. He was
educated at Gravelbourg Elementary School, Gravelbourg
High School and Campion College, Regina. SK. Paul was the
owner and publisher of Star Publications Ltd., Gravelbourg,
from 1962 to 1974. That year he represented the Canadian
Weekly Newspapers at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
100th Anniversary Celebrations at Regina attended by Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Paul was elected for three years as a trustee on the
Gravelbourg School Board in 1972. He helped introduce
continual bilingual instruction in schools.
He was an active member of the Lions' Club and handled all
public relation matters for the club for several years.
As a member of the Gravelbourg Board of Trade, Paul
suggested a "wagon train" project to celebrate the town's 50th
anniversary in 1966. Twenty-five families took part in the first
wagon train trek held in Canada in modern times.
In 1955, Paul won a Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper
Award for his article entitled "I am Gravelbourg...” written to
celebrate the Saskatchewan Golden Jubliee. In 1956, he won
first prize in Western Canada in a newspaper competition for
a special layout program for road safety across Canada. Over
the years, Paul collected and probably still has one of the
largest collections of historical Indian artifacts in Western
Canada.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and an
honorable life member of the Saskatchewan Weekly
Newspaper Association.
Paul served in the South Saskatchewan Second Battalion
(Reserve) in 1942 and in the preceding year, he had organized
and served on #104 Air Cadet Squadron, Gravelbourg.
