Obituary of Alice McIvor

Alice Louise McIvor of Lafleche, SK passed away on November 1, 2018, at the age of 92. Alice was born on the family homestead in the Melaval district on April 20, 1926. She was the youngest of three children born to Edward and Astrid (nee Lunde) Daniels. She began her education at Castlemore school, a half-mile from home, and attended high school in Melaval. Alice then went to Moose Jaw and took post-secondary training as a hair dresser. On June 29, 1946, Alice married Angus McIvor of the Woodrow district, and they were blessed with three children. They resided on the Daniels homestead at Melaval before moving to the farmstead close to Winnifred School. When it came to life on the farm, Alice and Angus were a team, raising livestock and growing cereal crops. Alice’s garden was a source of pride and enjoyment. She was an excellent cook and made the best chocolate cake. Alice spent many enjoyable hours as a member of the Eastern Star, horticultural society, and Lafleche Curling Club. Alice and Angus were "snow birds” for 25 years spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. The friends they made there were special and will not be forgotten. Alice and Angus retired from the farm to Lafleche, and later resided at Thomson Lake. They moved to Moose Jaw and enjoyed making a weekly trip to the farm to see the crops and other activities in the area. Angus passed away on February 16, 2012. Shortly after, Alice moved to the Prairie Villa in Assiniboia and then to the Lafleche & District Health Centre. Although she was not known for her musical ability, the staff at the health centre enjoyed Alice’s beautiful singing voice and she even played the piano on occasion. She will be dearly missed. Alice is survived by her loving family, daughter Glenda, grandchildren Wendy (Dave), Sherry (Derek), Michael (Arlene); daughter Coreen, grandchildren Edward (Amy), Shauna, Derinda; son Calvin (Marg), grandchildren Chris (Kim), Chad (Rachelle), Dustin, Craig (Alyssa); seventeen great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Angus (2012); parents Edward (1943) and Astrid (1996); brother Edward (1969); sister Alice Glenn (1922). Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 5, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at the Lafleche United Church, with Reverend Janelle Shaw officiant. Candle lighting by Wendy Welsh. Readers were great-granddaughter Holly Armstrong, great-granddaughter Bailey Armstrong, and Rachelle McIvor. The eulogy was shared by Dan Daniels and Dudley Daniels. Graveside honour guard by great-grandson Corporal Tanner McIvor. Active pallbearers were Chris McIvor, Chad McIvor, Dustin McIvor, Craig McIvor, Michael McIvor, and Dave Welsh. Family interment took place at the Lafleche Municipal Cemetery.
