Poem for Grandma Free
<div>
Today we are all here to acknowledge someone who was very dear, </div>
<div>
And celebrate she made it to the amazing age of 96 this year.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Grandma was a pro at whipping up any poem which is rare, </div>
<div>
So please - with this one, I hope you don't compare.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Rolande Jeanne Free was born right at home, </div>
<div>
It was on a farm Southwest of Glentworth that she was to roam.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Never was she alone as she had 5 siblings with whom to play, </div>
<div>
She sure loved that hard farm life in every way.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Then at age 6 her mom passed which made her life switch gears, </div>
<div>
As after that she lived at the convent in Lafleche for 3 years.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Then the family moved to Atwater and then to Meyronne, </div>
<div>
With that tough farm labour she worked her fingers to the bone.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
From there she went to Gravelbourg to attend school, </div>
<div>
Knowing grandma she was probably pretty darn cool!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Earl Harding was her first love and they married in 1942, </div>
<div>
They moved to a farm North of Melaval where their love grew!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Obviously the chemistry did not fade, </div>
<div>
As some pretty amazing kids were made.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
There was Larry, who used to live in BC, </div>
<div>
He is the funniest one we would all agree :o)</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Dolores is the shortest of the bunch and has energy from h*ll, </div>
<div>
But never stops worrying or moving so you can't really tell.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Jeannie was the next little gal in line, </div>
<div>
She always made grandmas toes and fingers look so darn fine!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Sadly in 1949 Earl and her son Joe had an accident and drowned, </div>
<div>
Thankfully to get her through it, it was God she found.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Then Wayne decided he wanted to join them in heaven, </div>
<div>
Unfortunately he passed away at the age of 27.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Grandma decided that she wasn't quite done, </div>
<div>
So she married Ken Free in 1951.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
They lived in Melaval which is a super small town, </div>
<div>
Then in 1980 she decided to go Moose Jaw bound.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
That crazy girl gave birth to yet a few more, </div>
<div>
Guess she never learned to shut that oven door.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Casey was the first to join the tribe, </div>
<div>
Til the day she passed, he was always by her side.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Butch is the one with all the computer smarts, </div>
<div>
Who also has one of the biggest hearts.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Dale wanted out next to have his fill, </div>
<div>
He can often be seen drinking his Pil!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
She has so many grand, great and great great grandchildren that she adored, </div>
<div>
You could tell as when she talked about them, her heart just soared!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Her favorite breakfast meal was her popcorn at the mall, </div>
<div>
It has been said that apparently she ate quite the haul :o)</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Wine was her drink of choice with supper or lunch, </div>
<div>
With that in her system she was less likely to give you a punch!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Everyone knows she loved to watch her beloved Blue Jays, </div>
<div>
She rearranged her schedule to stay home when they played!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
You never left Grandma without getting her hugs, </div>
<div>
If you forgot she would give you her famous slug!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
She loved watching her family play their fierce card games, </div>
<div>
It got competitive and sometimes people said some mean names.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Grandma just laughed it off and gave them a smack, </div>
<div>
She always made sure they got back on the right track.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
In her spare time you would see her at the casino in her happy spot, </div>
<div>
Most often than not she would win that super big pot!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Grandma as we all know, was really a rebel at heart, </div>
<div>
Not to mention she was pretty darn smart.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
A great sense of humor as well as dignity and grace, </div>
<div>
But p*ss her off as she would put you in your place!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Her family was her joy and pride, </div>
<div>
We will all miss her so much and must confide.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
That we loved our conversations so much,</div>
<div>
She always had that special touch.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Remember she is looking down from us up above,</div>
<div>
Look for the signs as she will send us her love.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
We will hold on and possess her strength,</div>
<div>
Promise we won’t let it go at any length.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Until then we will look forward to that moment that we meet once more,</div>
<div>
As we know it will be her smiling face that will meet us at Heaven’s door.</div>
