Obituary of George Palmier
George Michael Palmier of Moose Jaw, SK and formerly Lafleche, SK, passed away on February 17, 2012, at the age of 39 years. George was born on July 22, 1972 in Gravelbourg, SK, the youngest of 12 children born to Andre and Cecile Palmier. Due to complications during his birth, George’s life was not to be what Andre and Cecile were expecting. Following numerous visits to doctors throughout the province it became evident that George would be a child with special needs. This was of no consequence to Andre and Cecile, as they loved their gift from God unconditionally. George became an extension of Cecile. They were inseparable, whether working in the garden, taking lunch out to the field, attending social events or quietly watching Days of Our Lives; Cecile was never far away. George and his parents moved to Moose Jaw so that George had the opportunity to attend a school for children with special needs. George thrived at school; he enjoyed being with other children, loved music therapy and had a great time on school outings, such as horseback riding and swimming. After Cecile passed away George became the first resident of Moose Jaw Families for Change first home. George had his own special room that was decorated just for him. There is no way to express the profound gratitude that George’s family feels towards the staff at his home for loving George, caring for him, and giving him a home. There is no doubt that George was special in so many different ways, and we were all lucky to be a part of his life. George is survived by his loving family, brothers Leo (Joan), Gilbert (Elizabeth), Harvey (Stephanie), Joseph, Frances (Holly), Henri (Marie); sisters Gisele (Doug) Harding, Laurette Strieb (Bert), Bernadette (Leo) Morin, Stella; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Andre and Cecile (nee Chorel); sister Denise (Joseph) Morin; brother-in-law Gary Strieb. Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Ste Radegonde Roman Catholic Church, Lafleche, SK, with Father Joseph Strohhofer celebrant. Cross bearer was Kyle Palmier. Readers were Brandon Palmier and Jenna Palmier. The eulogy was shared by Mike Bachiu. Organist was Jacqueline Poirier. Pallbearers were George’s immediate family. Honorary pallbearers were everyone who shared in George’s life, staff of Moose Jaw Family for Change and staff of Diversified Services. Interment took place at the Lafleche Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of George to Moose Jaw Family for Change Inc., Box 58, 325 4th Ave. SW, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 5V2 were greatly appreciated.
