Obituary of Meryle Iwanicki

Meryle Iwanicki of Glentworth, SK, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the age of 83 years. Meryle was born on April 14, 1929, in Moose Jaw, SK, to William and Theresa Sonmore. The eldest of three children, Meryle grew up and went to school in Moose Jaw, graduating from Central Collegiate. She took dancing, piano, singing and swimming lessons, skated and played basketball. Meryle also went to the Conservatory of Music for voice training for three years. Meryle met Bill Iwanicki while working in a booth at a July First sports day. They were married on February 5, 1948 in St. Andrew’s Church. Meryle and Bill lived in Readlyn and Moose Jaw before moving to Glentworth in 1963. Meryle worked at Glentworth Motors until it closed, then started running the library in January of 1974. She also ran Ralph Goodale’s federal constituency office in Assiniboia from 1974 to 1979. Meryle was postmistress in Fir Mountain from 1979 to 1982, and then at Glentworth until 1999. Meryle enjoyed singing in the Minto senior and the St. Andrew’s junior and senior choir for nearly 20 years. She was also president of the Woman’s Musical Club, the Youth Guild and led a Brownie Pack for 5 ½ years. Meryle and Bill bought Quarter Horses and raised and raced them. Meryle found great joy watching the horses grow, run and show. Meryle is survived by her loving family, husband Bill; daughter Terry (Roland) Dumelie, grandson Jesse; daughter Karol (Bruce) Flynn, grandson Derek (Tamara), great grandson Austin, granddaughter Tracey, great grandson Josh, granddaughter Melanie (Chad) Jackson, great grandchildren Jacoby, McKenna, Brooke, Chase; daughter Laura Lee Mountain, grandchildren Taylor and Andrew; son Dave (Jenny), grandchildren Joe (Theresa), Becky, Tom and Amy; son Chris; brother Robert Seymour, sister Lois Adams; sister-in-law Lil Iwanicki; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., from Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia, SK, with Pastor Lionel Moffatt officiant. The eulogy was shared by Terry Dumelie and Lee Mountain. Music by organist Lori Klein and soloist Lorry Okraincee. The urn bearer was David Iwanicki. Interment to take place at a later date. Memorial tributes in memory of Meryle to the Wood Mountain Regional Park, Box 14, Wood Mountain, SK S0H 4L0, were greatly appreciated.
