Obituary of Martin BRESSLER

Martin Bressler of Assiniboia, SK and formerly Mazenod, SK, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at the age of 91 years. Martin was born August 8, 1921 on the family farm in the Mazenod district to Martin Sr. and Pauline (nee Buch) Bressler. He was one of 7 children. Martin grew up on the family farm and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church nearby. Martin lived a simple life that centered around his farm, coffee in Mazenod and family. In 2001 Martin decided to sell the farm and made his own arrangements to move to Assiniboia. There he enjoyed coffee downtown at the Franklin, where he played Nevadas. Trips downtown were less frequent when he couldn’t drive himself and Martin looked forward to his weekly coffee and grocery trip. Martin’s memory was incredible and he seldom forgot things. His schooling was limited but he knew numbers very well. Everywhere Martin went he made an impression; from a teller at the coop calling him a sweetie pie to the home care workers, Pastors, friends and family, those who got to know him and spend time with him were blessed. Martin enjoyed children and every holiday he wanted to give something to the little ones. Martin was a joy to be around. He had a great sense of humour and a quick wit. Martin’s faith was very important to him and he was proud of his roots in St. John’s church. He paid for a sign which marks the corner where the church stood near his farm at Mazenod. The last two years Martin was able to visit St. John’s cemetery a couple times and last year he saw the sign he bought to remember his faith beginnings. Martin will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., from the Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK, with Pastor Arden Barden officiant. The eulogy was shared by Patty Mergel. Pianist was Catherine Seeley. Urn bearer was Christina Kiel. Honorary pallbearers were the Assiniboia Home Care Staff. Interment took place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Mazenod, SK. Memorial tributes in memory of Martin to the Messiah Lutheran Church, Box 536, Assiniboia, SK S0H 0B0 and St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Box 115, Mossbank, SK S0H 0B0, were greatly appreciated.
