Obituary of Andrew BARAN Jr.

Andrew Baran of Lafleche, SK, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the age of 78 years. Andy was born in Lafleche, SK on February 25, 1934, the second child of Andrew Sr. and Sofia (nee Popowicz) Baran. Andy attended Lafleche Public School, graduating in 1951. Andy’s childhood was filled with all the exciting exploits of youth with his brother and friends in tow. As he grew into a man, Andy followed his dreams with different jobs in various regions of Canada. He came back home to Lafleche and worked as administrator for the RM of Wood River. Andy’s brother Walter worked alongside him in the Town Office; they worked in the same office for many years until their retirement. It was when Andy moved back to Lafleche that he met Shirley Moore, and they were married on August 29, 1966 in Meyronne. They constructed a new home at 109 2nd Avenue West in Lafleche. Andy and Shirley took many wonderful trips together, traveling in Canada and the United States. He was a volunteer fireman for many years and was a dedicated Legion member, serving a term as treasurer. He was also Secretary-treasurer for the Lafleche Flyers Senior hockey club and the Lafleche Chamber of Commerce. Andy managed the Lafleche Community Theater for a number of years, with the assistance of his brother. He loved to talk about cars and mechanics, and could fix almost anything. He was very proud of his cars and always had them clean and shiny. Andy was always ready to lend a helping hand, had a great sense of humor and was always joking and teasing his family and friends. Andy lived a good life, enjoyed much, loved well and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Andy is survived by his loving family, wife Shirley of 46 years; brother Walter Baran; mother-in-law Myrtle Moore; brothers-in-law Percy (Bernie) Moore, Donald Moore; sister-in-law Mavis Moore; nieces, nephews and relatives in the Ukraine. Predeceased by his parents Andrew Sr. and Sofia Baran; father-in-law Henry Moore; sister-in-law Linda Moore; uncle Ivan Popowicz; nephew Kevin Moore. Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 8, 2012, at 2:30 p.m., from Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, Gravelbourg, SK, with Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach Officiant. Soloist was Conrad Sandberg. Urn bearers were Dorian Moore and Aislinn Lawreniuk. Honorary pallbearers were "All those who shared in Andy’s life.” Interment took place at the Lafleche Municipal Cemetery, Lafleche, SK. Memorial tributes in memory of Andy to the Children’s Wish Foundation, P.O. Box 309, Saskatoon, KS S7K 3L3, were greatly appreciated.
