Obituary of Glenn Clarence EKLUND
Glenn Clarence Eklund of Assiniboia, SK, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the age of 80 years. Glenn was born on February 18, 1932, at the family farm in the Horse Creek district south of McCord, SK. He was the fourth child of Raymond and Theresa (nee Hoffman) Eklund. Glenn married Mearl Thompson on July 7, 1961. After living and working in several communities the family moved to Assiniboia in 1975. Glenn worked at Southern Equipment for many years. In 1991 he went custom harvesting with Petersen Harvesting from Fir Mountain, SK. He retired on October 29, 2010 after working 17 years for Smith Seeds at Limerick. Glenn loved fishing, gopher hunting, seeing the countryside, reading and a good joke. One of Glenn’s proudest moments was becoming a grandpa. Above all, Glenn loved his family and was very proud of them and will be dearly missed. Glenn is survived by his wife Mearl (nee Thompson); daughter Janice (Dan) Cayer; daughter Kim Eklund; daughter Raelynn (Greg) Nicholson; grandsons Tyrell, Reece, Lane and Carson Cayer, Cooper and Mason Nicholson; great-granddaughter Myah Cayer; sister Fay Mastad; brothers Vernon Eklund, Doug (Gail) Eklund; sisters-in-law Doris (Earl) Paton, Maxine (Ian) Smith; brother-in-law Gerald (Jane) Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his infant son Steven Glenn Eklund; parents Theresa and Raymond Eklund; sister Geraldine Munn; brothers-in-law Melvin Mastad, John Munn, Leo Hawes; sister-in-law Shirley Hawes; father and mother-in-law Earl and Edith Thompson; great nephew Jon Munn; great niece Kella Mastad. Funeral Service took place on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alliance Church, Assiniboia, SK, with Pastor Greg Dermody officiant. The eulogy was shared by Raelynn Nicholson. Photo memorial by Cooper Nicholson. Active pallbearers were Tyrell Cayer, Reece Cayer, Lane Cayer, Carson Cayer, Kyle Smith and Floyd Petersen. Interment took place on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the Bateman Cemetery, Bateman, SK. Memorial donations in memory of Glenn to Assiniboia Home Care, c/o South Country Health Care Foundation, Box 1750, Assiniboia, SK S0H 0B0, were greatly appreciated.
