Obituary of Adele Mary HICKS

Adele Mary Hicks of Mossbank, SK, passed away on October 5, 2012, at the age of 97 years. Adele was born on the family farm at Expanse, SK, July 24, 1915, the second child and eldest daughter in a family of nine to John and Alma Pearson. Adele was raised in a loving atmosphere that was filled with laughter, cards, music and Swedish feasts. She completed her grade 8 education and was never a stranger to reading, writing letters and beautiful penmanship. Adele married George "Bert” Hicks on December 16, 1933 at her family farm, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before Bert passed away in 1984. Adele worked hard on the farm, raising chickens and turkeys, milking cows, sewing clothing for the family and cooking all the meals. Adele enjoyed playing bingo and cards at the 50 Plus Club, and was a member of the United Church and the UCW. She was also an avid quilter and seamstress, and a great cook and hostess. Adele treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Above all, she loved her family and was very proud of them. Adele will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. Adele is survived by her daughter Doreen; daughter Donna (Lee); daughters-in-law Dolores, Martha; nine grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; sisters Hazel and Dorothy; brother Paul (Marg); sister-in-law Irene Thomas. Predeceased by her husband George "Bert” Hicks; sons George and Albert; grandsons Wesley Hicks and Jeffrey Cuthbert; sons-in-law Don Duncan, Brian Cuthbert; brothers Walter, Rudolf, Carl; sisters Alphid, Jeanette. Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 12, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., from the Mossbank United Church, Mossbank, SK, with Wendy Gibson DLMr officiant. The eulogy was shared by Donna Cuthbert. Active pallbearers were Wendy Mendenhall, Rhonda Wood, Robyn Cuthbert-Adair, Jerry Hicks, Barry Hicks, Dale Hicks, Jim Duncan, Sean Duncan and Dean Duncan. Interment took place at the Mossbank Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Adele to the Mossbank 50 Plus Club, c/o Adeline Lizee, Box 458, Mossbank, SK S0H 3G0, were greatly appreciated.
