Obituary of Duncan Alfred CRICK
Alfred Duncan Crick of Gravelbourg, SK, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the age of 69 years. Duncan was born in Radway, AB on March 29, 1943, the oldest child of Reginald and Annie Sophia(nee Avery) Crick. In 1955 when Duncan’s parents took over the family farm they relocated to the Gravelbourg area. Duncan attended Piche and Bateman Schools and graduated in 1961. After graduation he did odd jobs until he began work at Les’ Sales and Service in Bateman and later in Gravelbourg. Duncan married Marian Holden on July 22, 1967 and they were blessed with three daughters, Louise, Cheryl and Melody. Duncan took over the family farm in 1968 and then in 1978 he left Les’ Sales and Service to run Diamond Head Poultry Farm, which he moved from Congress, SK to his farm. Duncan was an active member of the Saskatchewan Commercial Egg Producers Marketing Board for five years, until he sold the poultry operation. He then worked for egg producers as a Field Representative until September 2007. Duncan and Marian then bought a section of land north of Mazenod, SK and farmed together until 2002, when they rented out the land and semi-retired. Duncan and Marian enjoyed Farmer’s Market in Swift Current for five years until his health started failing. Duncan enjoyed nature, fishing,, bowling, going for rides around the countryside to see the fields growing , bird watching and woodworking. Duncan always had a project of some kind on the go. Duncan was a member of the Kinsmen Club, Co-op Board, Sask. Wheat Pool, Sask. Egg Producers Marketing Board. and the Bateman and Gravelbourg United Church. Duncan loved his family dearly and enjoyed his grandchildren Alfred and Shania when they came to live with him, He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was always there to support his family and help them to achieve their goals. Duncan will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Duncan is survived by his loving family, wife Marian (nee Holden) of 45 years; daughter Louise; daughter Cheryl; daughter Melody; grandchildren Alfred, Daryl, Darian and Shania; sister Jean (Lu) Husli; nephew Michael; nieces Karen and Lia. Predeceased by his parents Reginald and Annie (nee Avery) Crick. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Stephen’s United Church, Gravelbourg, SK, with Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach officiant. The eulogy was shared by Alfred Crick. Special poem was read by Jacob Moses. Piano solo "River Flows in You” was performed by Alfred Crick. Organist was Iris Miller. Urn bearers were Louise, Cheryl and Melody. Interment took place at the Bateman Cemetery. Memorial tributes in memory of Duncan to St. Stephen’s United Church, Box 145, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0 and St. Joseph Hospital/Foyer d’Youville Foundation, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0, were greatly appreciated.
