Obituary of Therese Clermont
Therese Claire (nee Cloutier) Clermont passed away on September 17, 2010, at the age of 88 years. Therese, daughter of Arthur & Emma (Belisle) Cloutier was born on July 29, 1922. She was a lifelong resident of Lafleche Saskatchewan. Therese attended Mathieu School in Lafleche completing her education at the convent of Jesue Marie, in Gravelbourg in 1938. Therese married Edward Clermont on October 21, 1940. She was a devoted wife and mother blessed with 9 children and 66 years of marriage. Her life was centered on her family and later the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and last October 2009 was thrilled to welcome her first great-great-grandchild. Therese was a wonderful cook and homemaker. When her children were young and the farming years were lean she used her natural gifts and talents to help support her family. She started making flowers from crepe paper dipped in wax, progressing to "wood fiber” and in the later years silk flowers as they became popular. People came from miles to order flowers for numerous, weddings, graduations, anniversaries and many other special occasions. She was proud to make the flowers for all of her children’s and many of her grandchildren’s graduations and weddings. Therese spent many hours nurturing a fond interest in her families’ history compiling the histories and pictures into family albums. She also saved and compiled many pictures and clippings of community history and events. Her life story will now be a part of those keepsakes. Therese’s hands were never idle, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting and making quilts. All of her family has a treasured keepsake made by grandma whether it was a quilt or tablecloth. The highlight of every Christmas celebration for the grandchildren was pulling all at the same time from a large box their own handmade Christmas decoration attached to a string. She also loved to compete in a good game of cards whether it was bridge, crib or canasta. Many card parties with the neighbors were held during the earlier farming years.
