Obituary of Mary Rodgers
Mary Edith Rodgers passed away peacefully at the Foyer d’Youville, Gravelbourg, SK on Friday, February 21, 2020, at the age of 90 years. Mary was born on the family farm NW 19-11-03-W3 in the Palmer district on November 3, 1929, weighing five and a quarter pounds. She was the third of four children born to John and Maud Bowler. As a young girl, she had many fond memories of swimming and picnicking at the Wood River. In 1947, Mary started her teaching career at High Mountain and then went on to Normal School. After completion, she taught at Thornhill, Wiseman, and Gravelbourg. It was while boarding with George and Violet Rodgers, Mary met her soulmate Jim Rodgers and on July 7, 1951, they were married. Mary and Jim were blessed with three children: Beth, Lloyd and Diane. Jim and Mary enjoyed many fishing and camping trips with family and friends. They hosted many parties in their “games room” playing cards, pool and shuffleboard. She loved gardening and had beautiful flowers. Mary’s family meant the world to her and she cherished time spent with each and every one of them. She will be dearly missed. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 69 years Jim Rodgers; daughter Beth (John) Stobbs; son Lloyd (Ann) Rodgers; daughter Diane (Jim) Avery; grandchildren Robyn Stobbs, Tracy (Matthew) Corcoran, Jared (Hailey) Rodgers, Travis Avery, Jennifer (Catlin) Mayes, Kathryn Avery; great-grandchildren Silver, Knightly, Piercesin, Sterling, Blakely, Skye; sister-in-law Margaret (Palmer) Hansen. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapel, 100 5th Ave., East in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations in Mary’s memory may be given to St. Joseph’s Hospital/Foyer d’Youville Foundation, Box 810, Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0.
