Obituary of Gaston FOURNIER

Gaston Leo Fournier of Gravelbourg, SK passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the age of 82 years. Gaston was born on his parents homestead Northwest of Ferland, SK on November 3, 1931. He was the 7th child of 11 born to Louis and Angelina (nee Bouvier) Fournier. School was never much fun for Gaston, but hard work came easy and he enjoyed seeing his work flourish. Gaston married Bernice McGovern on November 20, 1952 in Ferland. Gerald was born in 1953, Colette in 1954, Diane in 1955, and Patricia in 1959. The family moved out to Brittons in 1961 and prospered. Gaston was re-married in 1977, to Therese Bourgeois. Terry had four boys of her own, Denis, Marcel, Gilles, and Danny. Denis and Marcel were already on their own farming in Gravelbourg, so Gaston, Terry, Gilles, and Danny moved into their house in Gravelbourg, where Terry still resides. They both enjoyed travelling on several cruises, from Alaska to the Southern States, Mexico and Europe. Gaston loved to sing and socialize. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, shooting gophers, and travelling in the Holiday Rambler. Gaston had a nickname for most everyone, which was a reflection of who he saw them as. Gaston passed away on December 9, 2013 in the Gravelbourg Foyer. He is and always will be missed by his loving family and friends. Gaston is survived by his loving wife Terry Fournier (nee Pinsonneault, formerly Bourgeois); son Gerald Fournier, granddaughters Amber (Kevin), Carley, Lindsey (Craig); daughter Colette (Larry) Hegg, grandson Jarrie (Maxine), great granddaughters Naomi, Linnea, granddaughter Odia, great grandchildren Mataya, Kasden, Aisha; daughter Patricia (Brad) Jassman, granddaughter Mandy (Scott), great granddaughters Aydri, Nayla, granddaughter Melissa (Drew), great grandchildren Denae, Mathis, grandson Tyler; siblings Louis (Therese) Fournier, Denise Hnilica, Alice Kupchyck, Eveline (Lawrence Janis), Lorraine (Edward) Godberson, Gerard (Diane) Fournier, Lise (Charles) Brooks. Terry’s Family: son Denis (Janice) Bourgeois, granddaughter Jacqueline (Jeff), great granddaughter Sarah, grandson Ryan (Christine), great grandchildren Rachel, Emma, Madeline; son Marcel (Patricia) Bourgeois, grandson Shawn (Sarah), great grandchildren Grant, Luc, Carter, grandson Gerard (Danielle), great grandchildren Alyssa, Brooklyn; son Gilles (Fiorella) Bourgeois, grandchildren Julia, Rebecca; son Daniel (Janice) Bourgeois, grandchildren Renee, Zacharie. He was predeceased by his daughter Diane Fournier; parents Louis and Angelina (nee Bouvier) Fournier; sisters Germaine (Havey) Smith, Angeline (Albert) Marcotte, Helene (Michael) Donauer; brothers-in-law Carl Hnilica and Ernest Kupchyk. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral, Gravelbourg, SK , with Father Joseph Strohhofer celebrant. Cross bearer was Zacharie Bourgeois. The eulogy was shared by Scott Berg. Readers were Gilles Bourgeois and Gerard Bourgeois. Offertory gifts were presented by Gaston’s Grandchildren. Music shared by Dave and Debbie Norman, and Leanne Mann. Urn bearer was Gerald Fournier. Honour guard was formed by the Knights of Columbus. Interment will take place at the Ferland Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
