Obituary of Cecil Reisner

CECIL REISNER

With sadness, we wish to share the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Cecil Reisner on Sunday, Oct 23, 2022. Cecil was born Feb 12, 1931, to Adolphe and Mary Reisner of Limerick, their third child. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2019, his sister Dorothy in 2018, his son-in-law Brent Moulding in 2018, and his brother Melvin in 1943. Cecil is survived by his children Gail Mergen (Dale), Barry Reisner (Karen), Debra Reisner, and Janice Petrich (Harold); his grandchildren Russell, Rodney, Tanya, Janelle, Stefanie, Alanna, Erin, Lisa, Ryan, Laura and Janine; his great-grandchildren Tristan, Sadie, Noah, Shaylee, Charlotte, Graham, Olivia, Josslyn, Linden, Heather, Hazel, Margot and Arlo Cecil.

Cecil lived his life on the family farm near Limerick, SK. The farm was homesteaded by his grandfather August Reisner in 1908. Cecil farmed from a young age until his declining health required him to step away from active farm work. He was a progressive farmer, and enjoyed seeing agriculture advance during his career. When he started farming, tractors had steel wheels but no cabs, and grain was shovelled both into and out of wooden grain bins. Cecil saw many changes over his decades of farming and was one of the first to embrace zero tillage and continuous cropping. He established a certified seed growing business in 1970, and enjoyed personal contact with his customers.

Family was of huge importance throughout his life. Margie and Cecil enjoyed farm life together for 67 years. Cecil operated equipment and Margie provided lots of meals and snacks. He instilled values of honesty, generosity, fairness and the belief that all are worthy of respect. Margie and Cecil always welcomed extended family, and particularly enjoyed visits from grandchildren, especially the babies.

A funeral service will be held at Limerick Trinity United Church Saturday Oct 29, 2022, at 3 PM, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in a social time at the Limerick Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be directed in his memory to Limerick Trinity United Church.

The family gratefully acknowledges the excellent care Cecil received from Dr. V. Carulei, and the staff at Prairie Villa and Ross Payant Nursing Home.
